Multi-Day Program at the Little Optimist 🌊⛵ Our time at the Little Optimist with the learners from Astra Special School has been nothing short of heartwarming and inspiring. Each day brought something new, but one thing stayed the same—growth, confidence, and joy.
From the moment the learners arrived, you could see a mix of emotions. Some were excited, some a little nervous, and others unsure of what to expect. But as the days went on, those feelings slowly turned into confidence and excitement.
We started with simple activities like rigging the boats, where everyone got involved and gave their best. There was laughter, teamwork, and a sense of pride in learning something new. Even the smallest achievements, like winning fun prizes, brought so much happiness.
Out on the water is where the real magic happened. At first, learners sailed with instructors, learning how to control the boat and understand the wind. But as their confidence grew, something amazing happened—they started believing in themselves. Some even asked to sail on their own, showing just how much they had learned.
There were moments of fear too, especially when the wind picked up or the boat leaned to one side. But instead of giving up, the learners asked questions, faced their fears, and kept going. With support and reassurance, they realised that they were safe—and stronger than they thought.
Each learner had their own special moment. Some enjoyed racing and being competitive, while others simply loved being in control of the boat and feeling the calmness of the water. There were smiles, laughter, and even quiet moments of reflection—like when one learner described sailing in one simple but powerful word: “freedom.” 💙
It was also beautiful to see how the learners began to take the lead. They encouraged each other, invited teachers to join them, and showed just how capable they are. Seeing them grow from unsure beginners to confident young sailors was truly inspiring.
The Little Optimist became more than just a place to sail—it became a space where learners felt safe, supported, and free to be themselves.
This multi-day program reminded us all that when given the opportunity, patience, and encouragement, every child can shine. And sometimes, all it takes is a little wind, a boat, and belief to discover just how capable you really are. 🤍
