Boat Delivery – Durban to Cape Town (Renton)

My Journey from Durban to Cape Town

So the journey started the day we flew to Durban. This was the first flight in my life, I was very excited and eager to experience that.

It was in Durban were we all knew there was no turning back. Our mission began by prepping the boat with fuel, water and food for our journey. The second thing we did was fix or patch up the spinnaker. Our journey began from Durban to East London. We sailed our first 48 hours which was long enough as we all had sea sickness. We then sailed from East London to P.E and this sail was not easy as we had a close call almost crashing but we were lucky and arrived in P.E safely and I was happy to feel land again.

We were informed in PE that we will only be able to leave in 5 days due to a storm that was about to approach P.E. After the 5 days wait, we were able to leave for our final stretch from P.E to Mossel Bay then home.

We all hoped to see Mossel Bay and feel land but half way through we were told that we could do another 100 NM extra due to the weather being good and with another storm coming it was better to get home. We the sail for about four days! Straight towards Cape Agulhas which was our new destination. We anchored in Cape Agulhas and Amir and I went in for a swim. We were lucky enough to swim alongside dolphins.

The mission became more real when we started our final stretch back home to Cape Town which started beautifully and then all of a sudden mother nature gave us a last reminder who was boss!

For myself this trip was or is the best experience because it my first time flying and being on a plane. It’s also the longest time I ever spent sailing and also the first time offshore, which I learnt lots about and also how it’s like life. For what I learnt most on this trip is that no matter what storm comes it must also come to an end.
