Heideveld Multiday programme – Fears faced, challenges conquered.
During the October school holidays, the kids from Heideveld Baptist were welcomed to attend our special mental health week program. A week filled with fun activities to promote and nurture their mental wellbeing.
On day 1, most of the kids got the opportunity to sail, and caught onto the skill quite quickly. Unfortunately, a few of the girls were terrified of getting into the boats or became scared due to the gusty winds on the day. However, they many opportunities throughout the week to face their fears with confidence.
On day 3, we were visited by a few important guests from The Little Lions, an organization that works to improve the mental health of children in impoverished areas. With them, came a sip and paint picnic where the kids got to indulge in a variety of different coloured cooldrinks, based on their emotions, while painting their feelings in Battery Park above the academy. Because kids are always hungry, they recieved many goodies to enjoy as well, both to feed their growing minds, but also uplift their spirits.
At the end of the week, all the kids were honorary sailors, even those who started off the week terrified at the thought of getting into a wobbly boat. No sailor was left behind! Everyone participated in the relay race, no fear in their eyes, only determination to win. In the end, one of the girls who initially struggled to be in a boat, won the race with her team. It was an amazing moment and the team was proud of how everyone has grown during their short time with us.
Our multiday programmes would not be possible without the on going support from our Main sponsors: Two Oceans Marine, Italtile, Southern Wind and Ullman.
