A Fun Day with the Heideveld Grade 11 Boys

The Grade 11 boys from Heideveld had a day filled with fun, learning, and new experiences. From the start, it was clear that the boys carried their own unique stories and personalities, which shone throughout the activities.

Inganathi stood out for his positivity. He answered most of the questions from Greg with confidence, and even when he didn’t know something, he simply said so without losing his spirit. He became even more comfortable when he realized there is someone who speaks the same language as him. His face lit up, and he eagerly began asking questions, showing how language can bring instant trust and connection.

During the questionnaire session, the group was very quiet. For a moment, it looked like Erica was talking to herself—only to realize that the boys were taking their “exam” very seriously! They were well-behaved, but also knew how to get excited when it was time for fun.

On the water, the boats brought many special moments. One boat carried three boys, and though one wanted to get off, his captain encouraged him to stay, gently pushing the boat away from the dock. The boy accepted it and carried on sailing.

Anathi’s story was another highlight. At first, he was very shy and nervous—so scared that he didn’t even want to try on his life jacket. But he did not give up. He faced his fear, and soon it turned into pure joy! By the end, his smile was huge, and he walked proudly after sailing, full of confidence.

Then there was Damian’s inspiring story. Having survived being shot and even suffering a heart attack, he had to go through the struggles of hospital visits and recovery. Yet on this day, Damian was strong, confident, and able to simply enjoy sailing. It was a moment where he could just play and relax—something every young person deserves.

This fun day with the Heideveld Grade 11 boys was more than just activities on water and paper—it was a reminder of their strength, resilience, and the joy they carry when given a chance to explore and grow.

It is only with the constant support of our sponsors that we can continue to carry on reaching at-risk youth.
