“Uncle Amir, when I come back for the 4th time, can you please make me a coach so that I can start teaching the other kids how to sail?”

This was a question asked by our 5-year-old friend from Bonteheuwel, and it perfectly captured the spirit of the day.

Last Saturday was truly a day to remember. We welcomed our friends from Bonteheuwel for another adventure at the Academy. As the boys and girls enjoyed their hot chocolates, they listened attentively as Greg shared his story.

Having survived three open-heart surgeries, Greg’s journey inspired everyone in the room. One of the girls connected deeply with his story, having undergone two open-heart surgeries herself. It was a powerful moment as Greg reminded her just how brave she was for overcoming such a difficult experience. Moments like these are a constant reminder of the importance of sharing stories that inspire, encourage, and create meaningful connections.

The day was filled with courage and growth. Some of the children stepped onto a sailboat for the very first time, overcoming fears and embracing new challenges. Others, like our determined 5-year-old friend who was sailing for the third time, were already dreaming about becoming coaches and helping others learn.

Prize-giving was on another level! The energy was contagious, the smiles were endless, and we even created a special chant just for the day.

These are the moments that remind us why safe spaces matter, spaces where children are encouraged to try, make mistakes, learn, grow, and try again. Watching confidence blossom, friendships form, and dreams take shape is what makes every Saturday so special.
