This Women’s Day was nothing short of spectacular.

We had the privilege of volunteering at the Roxy Davis Girls and Women of the Waves event, and what a memorable experience it was to witness so many girls and women coming together through a shared love of the ocean, surfing and community.

They came in their numbers, and nothing could hold them back.

From the moment we arrived, there was an incredible energy in the air. The atmosphere was filled with laughter, encouragement and excitement as women and girls showed up ready to embrace the day and, quite literally, ride the waves. The surfers brought their A-game, the energy was contagious, and there was a beautiful sense of connection that carried throughout the event.

For the Little Optimist crew, being there as volunteers was an absolute honour. We loved being part of the behind-the-scenes effort that helped bring the day to life, but more importantly, we loved witnessing the joy, confidence and togetherness that filled the space.

Events like these remind us of the power of creating spaces where girls and women can simply show up, try something new, support one another, and have fun.

We left feeling grateful to have played a small part in such a special day — and inspired by everyone who made it what it was.

Here’s to more women in the water, more girls finding their confidence, and more moments where we come together, cheer each other on and remind one another that there is no limit to what we can do.
