PADDLING 4 MANDELA & THE CHILDREN!

Let’s raise R67000 in honour of Mandela Day!

Its gonna be Awesome!

The Little Optimist has become a large part of our lives and we are super proud to be part of the Team!

As sports photographers we don’t usually get the chance to participate in events as we are normally behind the camera at the event.

With the cancelation of the 2020 Berg River Canoe Marathon, an event I have photographed for the past 12 years, the organisers created a virtual event where paddlers from around the globe can participate in completing the equivalent distance (240km) of the Berg River Canoe Marathon on any water body anywhere in the world.

Taz and I, who have only been paddling for the last year, decided to enter as one of very few opportunities to actually participate in a sport that means so much in our lives. That’s when the inspiration struck, why not make our kilometres do double duty for another important part of our lives: giving back to the community through the Little Optimist Trust. We would like to use every kilometre we complete to help raise funds for the Little Optimist Trust to help those in need in these trying times we all find ourselves in, especially as there are some who find themselves falling on much harder times than others. We are also taking inspiration from the fact that Mandela Day falls during the 24-day period of the event, combining inspiration, hope, and giving back to those who need it most.

We are aiming to compete in the the 240Km in the allotted 24 days between the 8th and 31st of July. The majority of our kilometres will be completed on Zeekoevlei, home to the Little Optimist base of operations and where we host many of our sailing therapy days for children in need of a little hope in their lives. We would love to raise R67000

Help us and  sponsor  us  for every kilometre we complete or with once-off donations in the theme of Nelson Mandela and  Mandela Day 67. So lets GO BIG & donate  R6.70 or R67 per KM;  or R670 or R6700 Total 😊

We’d love for anybody and everybody who can get involved to do so from companies to individuals, every bit helps to make a difference.

With Thanks

John and Taz
