On the 17th of March, we had the absolute privilege of spending the day with our young friends from Yada Adventures.
We started with a quick check-in, and right away, the space was filled with smiles and laughter. Because we believe that everybody counts, each of the boys and girls received a number to remember throughout the day. It quickly became something special, as they helped each other and proudly called out their numbers.
At the park, we played the “fruit salad” icebreaker. At first, there was a bit of shyness, but soon, the energy shifted. When the facilitator shouted “everybody counts!”, each child confidently called out their number, and you could see the group starting to come together.
Back in the learning space, we shared stories about Greg, Baby Adam, and Terrance, our superhero. The room became more reflective, with different emotions coming through as the children connected with the stories in their own ways.
Then came the water session, something many of them were nervous about. Some were excited, others were scared, and that was okay. We reminded them that it’s normal to feel that way when trying something new. What mattered was that they tried.
And they really did.
Some jumped straight into the dinghy with confidence, while others took their time, but each one showed their own kind of bravery. Before long, the fear turned into laughter, with splashing, cheering, and pure joy filling the moment.
By the end of the day, every child had stepped out of their comfort zone in their own way. To celebrate that, each of them received a certificate for their effort, courage, and willingness to try something new from start to finish.
It was a day full of growth, courage, and small moments that meant so much!
