Youth Month, June 2026

This youth month, The Little Optimist Crew has been visiting ECD centers in the Masiphumelele community to read The Little Optimist storybook, and what a beautiful experience it has been.

Everywhere we go, we make sure to bring lots of love, joy, and kindness, sharing it with all our friends because that’s what we’re all about at The Little Optimist ❤️

Every time we read the story, each group naturally gravitates towards a different character. The group we read to on the 11th of June absolutely LOVED the old houseboat, the one who teaches The Little Optimist everything there is to know about the wind, the lagoons, and even the big ocean. To them, the old houseboat wasn’t just a boat… it was the “teacher!”

Every single time the old houseboat was mentioned, the room would instantly light up with little voices shouting, “Teacher! Teacher!” while clapping their tiny hands with excitement and joy. But then came the storm… the moment the old houseboat got stuck out there, panic filled the room. The children became so worried about “the teacher,” listening extra carefully and hoping everything would be okay.

Moments like these continue to remind us just how powerful storytelling truly is. Stories allow young people to dream, connect, imagine, and see pieces of themselves in the characters they meet along the way. Sometimes, a superhero wears a cape… and sometimes it’s an old houseboat guiding little optimists through the waves 🌊💙⛵
