Early March 2019 The Little Optimist Trust completed a Fantastic East Coast Roadshow, in partnership with the NSRI. This fundraising trip raised more than R35 000 for the NSRI and our Trust and brought smiles, hope and Optimism to 1000s of children.
The trip kicked off in Plettenberg Bay where Greg met the great kids at Greenwood Bay College. They all came dressed as their future selves and left the event with renewed hope and optimism about what the future holds for them. The Plettenberg Bay movie night was hosted at the Surf Café in Plett which was jam packed with local kids and families who left with smiles, inspiration and big love.
Next stop was Port Elizabeth and the kids at Clarendon Park. Over 600 kids had the privilege of listening to Greg’s talk and to see his presentation. They were blown away and it was awesome to see so many of them at the movie night later that evening. All bringing their families and friends to see the movie. The evening was hosted at the Deep-Sea Angling Club in conjunction and kindly sponsored by Warwick Wealth. The crowd was amazing, and the auction raised some great funds for the NSRI and the Trust.
Zuney Primary School is located between PE and our next stop, Port Alfred, and the ideal place for The Little Optimist to pop in and bring some smiles. We donated 120 books to the children and spent some time with them chatting about their lives and what the future holds. It is a school in dire need of refurbishment and we have committed to finding some sponsors to help us make their school a safe haven for learning and growing.
Port Alfred might be a small town, and it is a little sleepy. But the kids of Port Alfred Junior School were treated to a morning of fun and inspiration when the Little Optimist came to town. The movie night, hosted at the Port Alfred Ski-Boat club, was well received and attended by over 50 people. The local NSRI volunteers were all there and really went out of their way to make us feel welcome.
Jeffrey’s Bay movie night was hosted at the beautiful Mentors Country Club. School children from George, on a school sport trip, were lucky enough to be able to watch the movie and hear Greg talk. They were overwhelmed with the movie and have asked Greg to speak at their school in George in future.
The movie night in St. Francis Bay, hosted at the St. Francis Brewery, was the perfect finale to a great event. The venue was packed to the brim, full of Little Optimist supporters, keen to meet Greg and see the movie. It was great to see some familiar faces and to also meet new friends and supporter.
We held a small auction at the end of each movie night and the crowds were so supportive, putting their hands deep into their pockets to help us raise money for the NSRI and our Trust. Two Oceans Marine and Ullman Sails provided us with some great gear to auction off at the event. Thank you.
We raised R31 447 in total!
The event would not have been possible without the hard work of Judy Venter from the NSRI, based in PE. She spent hours organizing the event and drumming up support all along the route. We are very grateful for her assistance.
Also a huge thank you for our accommodation sponsors
